NNE enjoyed a high activity level in 2006, resulting in a turnover of DKK 1,174 million (EUR 157 million). The turnover was slightly lower than in 2005, but the business outside Denmark continued to show rapid growth and delivered a turnover of DKK 282 million, corresponding to an increase of 37% relative to the 2005 level of DKK 206 million.
The operating profit was DKK 40.6 million, corresponding to an operating profit margin of 3.5%. This result is lower than in 2005 and does not live up to NNE’s long-term objective of an operating profit margin of 5-10%.
NNE’s client portfolio changed significantly during 2006 from being dominated by one single client, Novo Nordisk, to a wide variety of international clients. This development was reinforced at the end of the year when NNE acquired the pharmaceutical engineering company Pharmaplan. This German company operates in many countries around the world and the combined client base will further reduce NNE’s dependence on a single client. When the authorities have approved the acquisition, the unified company will be named: NNE Pharmaplan.
NNE’s President Hans Ole Voigt comments: - The achievements in 2006 confirm international expansion as a successful strategy for developing our business. And the creation of NNE Pharmaplan establishes the base for a further business expansion based on global reach and many highly skilled employees.
The growth in international activities is reflected in an increasing number of employees outside Denmark. This trend is accelerated by the acquisition of Pharmaplan, raising the number of employees outside Denmark to nearly 600 or more than one third of all employees. The approval of the acquisition is anticipated to happen at the end of March 2007.
